Afronaut PRO, the groundbreaking typeface unveiled in 2019, pays homage to the rich heritage of vernacular Latin and Arabic typography found along the Senegal-Mauritania border in St. Louis, Africa. Inspired by Bartek Sabela's "Afronautics – from Zambia to the Moon," which chronicles Zambia's foray into space exploration, the typeface project was born. It sought to amalgamate the essence of vernacular Arabic script, futuristic typographic elements, and distinctive lettering discovered during extensive travels across Guinée, Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania, and West Sahara.
